Description

Awakening is a concerto for tenor trombone, bass trombone and piano, originally written for orchestra. This composition was commissioned by Joseph Awad and dedicated to three iconic trombonists: Ian Bousfield, James Markey, and Jeremy Wilson. The orchestral version was premiered by Ian Bousfield and Jeremy Wilson with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra on January 26, 2022. The piano reduction was recorded and receives a special dedication from Filipe Alves, principal trombone of the Staatskapelle Berlin, and Tomer Maschkowski, bass trombone of the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

This piece is inspired by the novel Blindness by José Saramago, a Nobel Prize winner. There are many philosophical implications in this book that I seek to reflect in this piece, with the concept of freedom prevailing above all.
