Description
The Guiding Star, for brass and percussion ensemble, is a Christmas fanfare that was premiered worldwide by the New York Philharmonic during the Holiday Brass 2022 concert conducted by Philip Smith at the Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall. The brass band version was commissioned and is dedicated to the Brass Band du Conservatoire de la Ville d’Esch-sur-Alzette.

The piece “The Guiding Star” is orchestrated for a brass band and includes the following instruments:
– Cornets: Soprano Cornet in E♭, Solo Cornet 1 & 2 in B♭, Solo Cornet 3 & 4 in B♭, Repiano Cornet in B♭, 2nd Cornet in B♭, 3rd Cornet in B♭
– Flugelhorn
– Horns in E♭: Solo Horn, 1st Horn, and 2nd Horn (also included in F)
– Baritones: 1 and 2
– Trombones: Trombone 1, Trombone 2a, Trombone 2b (included both in treble and bass clef), and Bass Trombone
